| 1. Player Build Information | | by Omnem, Dragon and Shyminx on 26 Dec 2011 | On the eve of a new season, we want to remind everyone of a few basics about building players: Scorers - There are 3 types of scorers (not including combinations of the 3 types) 1. Wrist shooters - Players that primarily use their puck handling skills along with speed and vision to maneuver through the opposition and score goals 2. Slap Shooters - Players that primarily use strength and vision to fire long distance shots on target. 3. One-timers - Opportunistic players that use their agility and vision to quickly (re)direct the puck and score on offbalance Goalies. Defenseman - There are 2 basic types of defenders. Body checkers - Use strength and agility to knock an opposing player off balance causing him to lose the puck. Poke Checkers - Use speed and agility to 'poke' the puck from an opponent's control. (Note: Both of these types of players will also need passing and puck control to contribute to a cohesive offensive effort.) Centers - The primary faceoff players and playmakers on their teams. These players not only need to train 'faceoff' but passing, puck control, agility and a bit of some type of shooting to be effective in the offense. Goalkeepers - While shot-blocking is obviously the primary skill that Goalies need to train, they will also need to train one or all types of shooting in order to be able to defend those types of shots. Secondary skills for all players include passing, puck control, stamina and confidence. While confidence is important for all players, it is especially important for shooters and Goalies. Please note, that when players are first developing, you will want to concentrate on one primary skill along with the appropriate secondary (physical) skills. As they get older, you will want to add another primary skill to complement the skills that they've trained with their first primary, i.e. a wrist shooter might want to train poke checking while a slap shooter might train body checking.
